FOODIES TO TRY WHEN IN ILOCOS


Ilokano are the third largest Filipino ethnolinguistic group. Ilocanos boast of somewhat healthy diet heavy in  boiled or steamed vegetable and freshwater fish, but are particulary fond of dishes flavored with bagoong, fermented fish that is often used instead of salad. (source:wikipedia)

PINAKBET PIZZA

This is not the typical pizza we use to eat in a pizza parlors. Ingredients are usually seen in a Filipino dish called Pinakbet which contains String beans, Eggplants, ladies fingers, ground pork and tomatoes. and bitter gourd. With a twist, it is added with a lot of cheese on a crunchy thin crust. Instead of chili flakes or hot sauce which we used to smear over the pizza, it is the bagoong or fish paste that brings out your taste bud.



BAGNET

This is a Ilocano version of Lechon Kawali. A large chunks of Pork Liempo, belly or pork sides which is deep fried at least two times until it becomes crispy.

BALAY DA BLAS

Balay da blas Pension House is located near from the Capitol of Ilocos Norte and a 15 minutes away from the airport. This is designed with antique pieces of furniture and painting, designed with new and old furnishing. They're not just offering rooms but also provides with local dishes at the restaurant called SARAMSAM YLOCANO.

Spaghetti with shrimps, green and red bell peppers, fresh tomatoes with olive oil grated with Parmesan Cheese.

Blanched vegetables, savory dip with fresh fresh sliced tomatoes with bagoong.
KALTI

An ilocano fondue which contains diced sweet potatoes and native banana dipped with melted sugar and glutinous rice balls.
