GUIMARAS ISLAND


Guimaras is a fourth class island of province of the Philippines located in the western visayas region. Among the smallest provinces, its capital is Jordan. The island is located in Panaya gulf between the islands of Panay & Negros. The province consists primarily of Guimarasa Island and also includes Inamapuluan, Guiwanon, Panobolon, Natunga and Nadulao. (source: wikipedia)

Getting there:
From Iloilo airport take a rental van directly to the wharf for 500.00 There are two ports in Iloilo bound to Guimaras. The Parola Wharf(ferriesn bound to Buenavista) located at the mouth of Iloilo near domestic port ferries & Ortiz wharf(bound for Jordan Guimaras) located near at the University of Iloilo. We took the 15 minutes pump boat ride from Ortiz wharf bound to Jordan for a fare of 15.00. Then rent a multicab/jeepney for a day tour around the Municipality of Jordan & Buenavista's favorite spots for 1,500.00 and can be negotiated.

BALAANG BUKID (HOLY MOUNTAIN)
Balaang Bukid is one of the main attractions in Guimaras as a pilgrimage site for catholic especially during the Holy week. It is a 30-45 minutes trek from the foot of Balaang Bukid and has 14 station called way of cross which symbolizes the life of Jesus Christ. When you reached the peak of the Mountain, you will be rewarded from the scenic view of Iloilo City coast & Guimaras Island because of its relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. Also, there's a huge cross and the Ave Maria Church at the Summit.

SMALLEST PLAZA

This is the smallest Plaza in the Philippines and features a smallest statue of Dr. Jose Rizal. It was earned the title as smallest plaza in Guinness Book of World Record once.


A MUST TRY WHEN IN GUIMARAS

Experience the taste of local dishes inspired with lots of Mangoes. The Pitstop restaurant is situated in San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras. They have variety of menus to choose from but one of the best food and their specialty is the Famous Mango Pizza which  savor with lots of cheese, fresh tomatoes and fresh & sweetest Mangoes from Guimaras.

OUR LADY OF THE PHILIPPINES MONASTERY

Our Lady of the Philippines Monastery is a Trappist monastery on Guimaras and is the trappist monastery in the Philippines. It was founded in 1972 and at present there are 35 monks living in the monastery. They produce a number of products, selling under the brand “Trappist Monastic Products” including pineapple and mango jams which can be found in local stores and at their shop.(source:wikipedia)





GUISI POINT LIGHTHOUSE

The Guisi Lighthouse is an 18th century Spanish-Colonial lighthouse built beside the beach. It was built to guide mariners passing the Iloilo and Guimaras strait. The lighthouse can be reached by the following trail. The 15-minute uphill trek to the Guisi lighthouse also provides a great view of the beach. At the top of the hill are the ruins of a Spanish-colonial outpost and the rotting remains of the metal lighthouse structure.(source:exploreiloilo.com)

We headed back to Iloilo after a day tour and it was really fun!
